English Language Arts and Social Studies

English Language Arts:

During the first term students will have an opportunity to read and respond to a variety of short stories. Students have also engaged in some creative writing and will be selecting a piece of writing and use it to create a finished piece of writing. In term two students will  be examine a class novel and be exposed to public speaking. Finally, in the third term students will be responsible for an independent novel study along with researching and writing a research paper.


Social Studies



At the beginning of the year we looked at the provinces and territories, so that as we move forward in the year we will have a sense of location for other parts of Canada.

We are now looking at the five different forms of empowerment that are used throughout the text book, which are: Economic, Political, Cultural, National, and Societal.
